About A217 C5 Cast Alloy Steel Piston Valve
A217 C5 Cast Alloy Steel Piston Valve
Full port forged steel isolation valves with a maximum operating pressure of 1973 psig/136 Barg and a maximum operating temperature of 800oF/427oC. The burnished piston and metal reinforced graphite rings provide leak-proof shut off and allow Piston Valves to be operated at higher temperatures, while also extending operating life.
Piston Valves are available in Socket Weld, BSPT, and NPT end connections. Flanged ends can be supplied upon request. Piston Valves are ideal for saturated and superheated steam, and hot water applications.

Exceptional Shut-off ReliabilityDesigned with a metal-to-metal piston ring seating, the valve delivers bubble-tight sealing for zero leakage in the shut-off position. This guarantees optimal performance in high-pressure and high-temperature environments, supporting industrial operations with dependable protection against leaks.
Customizable and Robust DesignSelect from flanged, screwed, or socket weld end connections to best suit your piping requirements. The pressure seal or bolted bonnet type and high-temperature gland packing enhance operational safety, while the anti-corrosive coating and shot-blasted surface offer improved resistance to aggressive industrial media.
Versatile Application RangeSuitable for steam, oil, gas, and chemical fluid lines, this piston valve excels in demanding settings such as power plants, refineries, and chemical industries. Its manual handwheel operation and straightforward shape ensure ease of maintenance and consistent performance, meeting stringent industry standards.
FAQ's of A217 C5 Cast Alloy Steel Piston Valve:
Q: How does the A217 C5 Cast Alloy Steel Piston Valve provide leak-proof sealing?
A: The valve uses a metal-to-metal piston ring seating design, which ensures bubble-tight closure and zero leakage in the shut-off position, even under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions.
Q: What end connections are available for this piston valve?
A: Standard flanged ends conforming to ANSI B16.5 are provided, with optional screwed or socket weld ends available upon request for customized installations.
Q: When should this piston valve be selected over other valve types?
A: This piston valve is ideal when zero leakage and reliable shut-off are critical, particularly in high-pressure and high-temperature applications involving aggressive media such as steam, oil, gas, or chemicals.
Q: Where is the A217 C5 piston valve typically used?
A: Common applications include steam lines, high-pressure service lines, oil and gas pipelines, and chemical fluid transport, making it well-suited for power plants, refineries, and industrial piping systems.
Q: What testing process ensures the valve's reliability?
A: The valve undergoes hydrostatic shell testing according to BS 5154, API 602, and ASME B16.34 standards. Body test pressure is applied at 1.5 times the rated pressure, while seat testing is performed at 1.1 times the working pressure.
Q: How does the enhanced corrosion resistance benefit users?
A: The ASTM A217 C5 alloy steel composition, coupled with anti-corrosive coatings, provides robust protection against harsh chemicals and aggressive media, prolonging valve life and reducing maintenance costs.
Q: What sizes and working temperature can this valve accommodate?
A: Valves are available in port sizes from 1/2 inch to 12 inch (15mm to 300mm), with custom sizes on request. They are suitable for operating temperatures up to 600C (1112F), supporting demanding environments.
